Dip cotton wool in a little olive oil and rub your pearl jewellery with it. The pearls will regain their brightness in minutes.

Keep your silver ornaments in a box with a piece of camphor to prevent them from turning black.

To get back the shine of your gold jewellery, soak it in a solution of 2 cups vinegar and 2 tablespoons turmeric powder for 2 hours; then rub lightly with a soft cloth.

Apply a coat of nail varnish over imitation jewellery to prevent it from turning black.

To lend a sparkle to your gold jewellery, apply toothpaste and rub for 2-3 minutes with a used toothbrush. Wash off with lukewarm water.

To check whether pearls are real or not, put them in a glass of water. If they sink they are real. Plastic pearls remain floating on the surface.
