Skip Breakfast for Biryani

When you have had your fill of the minarets, pearl bazaars and the charminar, step into one of the biryani restaurants in the market for some finger-licking goodies. The city is a blend of fairytale and reality, a hodge podge of old and new, forming an exotic background for its much sought-after delightful cuisine.

In Hyderabad the nawabi influence on the food is all too apparent and you can find a variety of foods such as salans, Bhaghare Baigan, pattar ka ghosht, korma and pakodas, all with special enticing aromas and mouthwatering flavours. A typical Hyderabadi feast has 26 different varieties of biryani. You must try the Qubani ke meetha (stewed apricot), Anday ka Piyosi  (a dessert with eggs, almonds and purified butter), and Dil e Firdaus (a rich milk-based sweet) from one of the many sweet shops around that area.

Don’t miss

The chakna  (a soicy meta dish) from the chaknawadi around the charminar area.
