Getting Fired Without Burning Out

Getting fired is a pretty horrifying experience. No matter how much you know the job was wrong for you, somewhere in the firing is the unkindest cut: Your job dumped you. If you have been fired in a kind fashion, I encourage you to take it with your usual poise. You shouldn't have to sit through an itemized list of all your personal flaws, but constructive criticism- rational reasons offered for why you are being let go – can only help you in the long term. If you are lucky, taking the criticism well might afford you the opportunity to call on someone at the company for a reference in the future. It may not seem at the moment like that's of any interest to you, but it might become so in a few days or months.

If you have been fired and you are pretty sure it can't be contested as unjust, you wont be eligible for unemployment benefits, so the best thing you can do is give yourself a day or two to mourn, then start looking for another job. It will make you feel better to get right back on the steed.

If you think you have been fired unjustly, that there might be some foul play afoot, unemployment laws. You might be entitled to take the case to court when I could potentially be found in the wrong makes my stomach turn, but you do what you have to do.
