Spend more on clothes for daytime

Spend more on clothes for daytime than on your out on the town get ups. You can dress up a thrift-store dress with some classy jewelry or go sexy in a disposable hoochy top from the mall under veil of night, but the cold light of day is unkind to sequined polyester tube tops.

Shop off-season for best bargains

Winter coats in April, bathing suits in early fall. The end of the season is when you find the massive sales, the ridiculous markdowns, because no one's thinking cashmere scarf when it's 90 degrees out. Except you.

Save your receipts to take advantage of price adjustment policies

If you buy a sweater for $80 and they mark it down to $35 the following week, you can march back into Banana republic and get $45 back if it's within the adjustment window.

If you can't wash it or iron it yourself it's probably not worth it.

Try to shop less at the mall

not only are you likely to find yourself irresistibly drawn to the orange Julius Stand, but unless it's Super-Duper Sale time, you can probably find most things cheaper on the web. You can try online shopping on different sites to do price comparisons on essentially anything. You don't get the benefit of a dressing room when shopping online.
