Eyes
The skin around the eyes is sensitive and delicate and needs good care at all ages. Many skin creams often contain AHAs, which help in exfoliation, but such products should never be applied around the eye area as they dry the skin, causing premature wrinkles. Eye creams are rich in oil and moisture and target common eye problems such as crow’s feet, puffy eyes and dark, under-eye circles.
Some do and don’ts:
Use an eye cream around the eyes to keep moisture locked in the skin. When applying cream or make-up around the eyes use the ring finger. Also massage the eye cream from the outer corner to the inner corner and not vice versa.
Dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Now lay back and rest. This is to relax the eye skin muscles when they are tired after working long hours on computers. Try eye exercises.
Gently tap your skin with your ring finger when you are applying eye creams to encourage the fluid to drain away. Store creams in the refrigerator, as the coldness will also help reduce puffiness. Place strips of grated potato under your eyes to help reduce swelling. Fill a small bowl with ice cold water with or without a teabag in it, or cold milk. Soak cotton wool in the liquid and lie down with the dampened pads over your eyes. Replace the pads as soon as they become warm.
Cucumber as Eye Soother
Calm and condition the delicate skin around your eyes with cucumber as it helps in reducing dark circles. The most clichéd but also the most effective stress-buster this is especially comforting after late-night parties or a busy week at work spent in front of the computer screen.
While applying a mask, protect your eyes with a layer of eye cream as the mask can dry out the sensitive area around the eyes. You could also use a petroleum jelly for this purpose.
