4 easy steps for disco curls
Step 1: section
Make sure your hair is freshly washed with a clarifying shampoo to allow this styling trick to work its magic. Use section clips to divide the hair up before it’s kinked. Bigger sections of hair will give a fatter, wide wave and smaller sections will give tighter, spiral curls. Comb through each section before holding in place with a clip.
Step 2: Zulu Knots
Next, take the sections of hair and spritz each section then comb through. Then take the end of the hair and rotate your finger in a twirling motion, twisting the hair in one direction. When the hair starts to get tighter, twist it back on itself and pin at the root. Repeat the twirling and twisting on all sections.
Step 3: Set
A curl would be created by just leaving hair in Zulu knots but they’d have to be left for a few hours to take shape. So to speed up the curl possesses and to give your kinks longer staying power, clamp over each knot for a few seconds, then release. This will heat up the knot momentarily and it cools will set the curl quicker.
Step 4: Separate
Once knots are completely cool, release each one being sure not to touch the hair too much. Then flip your head upside down and shake out the hair to release it from the twists and create waves. Once upright mix some wax into the palm of your hands and gently work through hair to define the waves. Pro tip Mix up the direction of the knots so the curls look natural, but try to match up the front ones.
